The story is I couldn't sleep last night and when I can't sleep I like to listen to, lately
it's been like non-duality speakers, I guess.
And last night I listened to a lot of Rupert Spira, a name I've mentioned on this show
before.
Rupert Spira is a man who talks a lot about what he calls the non-duality understanding.
And calling it the non-duality understanding, from what I understand, pardon the pun, is
it's a pointer, because in fact there is no understanding, according to the non-duality
understanding, from what I understand.
Yeah.
So I listened to some Spira and I mentioned in the previous episode where I talked about
Rupert, I mentioned that I was struggling with having it click, right?
Having the non-duality understanding click.
I was sitting there listening to this stuff, waiting for it to click, and last night it
clicked a little bit.
He was talking about how he was in Amsterdam, I reckon, I think he tells this story in multiple
videos.
He was in Amsterdam and he was observing people going off of this bungee jumping ride thing,
and then he talked about how the reason that people go on thrill rides, he was explaining
the reasoning behind why people go on thrill rides, why people go to prostitutes or seek
pleasure in all sorts of ways, drink alcohol, etc.
The reason people do this is, oh my god, I'm going to screw this up, but the reason
people do it is to invoke, well, with respect to the thrill ride thing, people invoke the
fear of death.
It's invoking the fear of death in you, which, interestingly, gives you peace.
The fear of death gives you peace, or thinking that you're going to die gives you momentary
peace, having sex gives you momentary peace, or the pleasure of erotic joy gives you momentary
peace, drinking alcohol gives you momentary peace.
It quiets the mind.
If only for a brief moment, the mind is quiet and you're just left with pure awareness.
The oneness that is the awareness, the ubiquitous awareness, that's what you're left with.
In those moments when your mind is quiet, which is why people do pleasure-seeking type
activities.
And that makes sense to me, so it clicked.
That's what I mean by it clicking, because that idea does make sense to me.
And yeah, I can definitely relate.
