Good morning, this is the Lone Dev SEMA Daily Podcast.
Thank you for tuning in, I'm Brett, your host.
It's Monday morning.
We are in the thick of the holiday season now.
I just dropped my middle son off to school
for that three-week period in between the days off,
that three-week period in between Thanksgiving
and Christmas break.
That period of time where you're stressing out
buying holiday gifts and whatnot,
and the fishing's not so great.
Yeah, that period of time.
Hello, we're in it.
We're in the thick of it.
Good morning.
It is another gloomy day here in Northern California
where I live.
It's been gloomy like this many days on end.
The sun hasn't peeked through this high fog
in many, many days, many, many days.
I think this week we're gonna get some sunlight.
We're gonna get a little bit of sun
peeking through that high fog,
and I just might take that as an opportunity
to go to the lake and catch me some carp.
But that's probably something you're not interested in.
What are you interested in?
Perhaps you're interested in the stock market.
Who are you?
This is a question I've asked many times.
In fact, it's only the second time,
but I've asked it in the previous episode.
I said, who are you?
And you didn't answer me.
But today I ask again, who are you?
In the next episode, perhaps, or the episode after,
I'm gonna create a landing page on my website on bretts.app.
That is my website, bretts.app.
I'm going to create a landing page on my website
that allows people to give me an anonymous message
because I just wanna know,
is there anybody actually listening to this thing?
And if you are, just give me a sign.
That will be my little experimental project
for this podcast that I'm doing here.
But anyway, I had absolutely nothing planned
for this episode.
I just wanted to give you a proper workday update.
Yeah, like I said, just dropped off the kid to school.
Heading home now.
Gonna go over my stock portfolio
and the usual stuff I do in the mornings
and think about the next project I'm gonna be building.
Like I said, I'm gonna create a landing page
where people can give me anonymous messages on my website,
and that's for this podcast here.
So I'm gonna be putting some more effort into this podcast.
I've been putting some development effort
into this thing.
Just so you know,
I'm actually putting some effort into this here podcast.
It's not just me pressing record and riffing.
I'm actually gonna try to make this
into something interesting,
but it does require feedback.
It does require some interaction from you folks
that are listening.
If there is anybody listening,
it does require a little bit of feedback from y'all.
So I want you to hit up that feedback page
I'm gonna be building soon,
and I'm gonna give you information about it
in future episodes.
Probably the one this afternoon.
So actually in this very podcast you're listening to,
you just might get the URL.
I've already decided what the URL's gonna be,
but I can't tell you yet
because I'm not 100% confident
that I'm gonna actually build it this afternoon
or finish it this afternoon.
So I'll let you know when it's actually done,
but there's a very good chance
in this very episode you're listening to right now
that I'm gonna let you know
what the URL to that feedback page is gonna be.
So that's that, my friends.
Like I said, gloomy day.
I'm on the road.
The leaves are finally turning here in Northern California.
It takes a long time for the oak trees
to finally drop their leaves.
Towards the end of the fall,
they kind of turn like this brown color,
and it isn't until like mid-December
where they've finally dropped all their leaves,
and that's when you know it's really wintertime.
The official start of winter is actually,
I think it's December 21st.
It's the winter solstice that's coming up, folks.
And that, that day,
that is the day right before Christmas.
That is the anti-crescendo.
Is that a word?
I think that's a word.
The anti-crescendo, crescendo.
The opposite of crescendo.
That is the anti-crescendo of the year.
I think it is a special time of year.
It's a magical.
Time of year.
And we're getting there, folks.
We're getting to the anti-crescendo.
All right.
Hopefully I didn't bore you to death this episode.
But, well, this isn't the end of the episode.
I'm gonna record an afternoon edition,
hopefully with the URL to my feedback page,
and I thank you for listening.
We're in the thick of the holiday season now, folks.
Hang in there.
Like I said, it's okay to listen to Christmas music now.
It's not weird.
Go ahead and do so.
Not that you need my permission or anything, but.
Yes, it is appropriate now like I like I covered in the previous podcast I covered
When it is indeed appropriate to play Christmas music and now's the time to do so. Yes. Thank you. Alright, peace out
Good day, this is the morning segment. Wait a second. Good day
This is the afternoon segment of the lone dev summit daily podcast
Welcome to it. I
mentioned this morning in the morning segment that I was gonna create a a
web page on my website where people can go and
leave their anonymous feedback I
Mentioned that this morning. Yes, I did and
In fact, I did indeed create that web page that web page is now available
Where anybody
Who knows the URL?
Can go there and give me anonymous feedback regarding the lone dev summit daily podcast
Where you can say whatever you want and I will talk about it on this here show
Don't don't confess to any crimes or anything
The only information I have on you is your IP address
So I wouldn't be able to really do anything with that information not that I'd want to
but anyway, don't like
Whatever. It's an anonymous web page, right? You can go there and post whatever the hell you want
I just want to know if there's anybody actually listening to this thing and
that's that's a way that I I've I
I
Figured out that maybe that's the only way I can get actual proof
I mean I can see that it's being downloaded
but is anybody actually listening and
So go to this URL
The URL is Brett's dot app
slash feedback
That's BRET dot app app slash feedback
and
You'll find a form there
where you can
Just you can optionally enter your name or you can just enter it in not an anonymous message
Is there anybody out there?
This is the test
anyway
If you are out there, thanks for listening. If you actually subscribe to this thing Wow, that's amazing
But thank you. Anyway, wow, that was a weird car
I am on my way to a department store a
relic of the past
Kohl's have you heard of Kohl's? It's a it's a department store here in the u.s
and I'm going there to return something because it's it's a place you can go to
Drop off your Amazon returns. I'm going there to drop something off
not that it's
Pertinent to this episode, but that's what I'm doing folks
And I wanted to talk a little bit about artificial intelligence
Because I use it all the time now, okay, so I used artificial intelligence to
Help me put together the feedback form
And it was really simple
If you can go there, you can see if you go there, you can see how it looks pretty nice and stuff
like the
Like the
The visuals are friendly
not bad, I mean wouldn't win any design awards or anything, but
It's nice and it's something that would have taken me a while to do
If you look under the hood, there's a lot of CSS and stuff behind the web page
Cascading style sheets for those who don't know what CSS means
Are you a developer?
Well, anyway AI helped me throw this thing together it was so easy and
The stuff they say about about AI is partially true. Yeah, it is taking over the development world
in a way
But you still have to hold its hand somewhat
It doesn't just do everything out of the box correctly the first time
For example when I was putting together this feedback form
There were some things I had to have it correct
Especially security related things
And I had to have a little bit of knowledge about this stuff in order to direct it in the right way
Direct it in the right way
So it's not 100% like foolproof
Where a non developer can go and create something like this without any
Knowledge. I mean they could they could get something that works
But the devil's in the details, right?
Like maybe they'd make it slightly insecure or somebody could guess the URL where I go and view the responses to this thing
Well, you could go ahead and try to guess the URL and if you did guess it you wouldn't be able to access it because
it's impossible and
also, I made a little web page for viewing the responses to this thing and that's also a
URL I won't that's not public obviously, but if someone happened to guess it
They wouldn't be able to view it because I put it behind a very strong password
that would take like
Longer than the heat death of the universe to brute force
So what I'm trying to tell you is that it's gonna be impossible for anybody to view the responses that you put up on my
anonymous feedback form
so if you have any fears that
I'm not thinking about this kind of stuff if you're the kind of person who does consider these things have no fear
Because I do think about this kind of stuff. I did work for a security software company for seven years of my career
So I am security minded
And that's that and that's where AI won't necessarily think of all the details
Well, I
guess my point is that AI is super helpful and
So a non-programmer can use it to get something working, but the devil's in the details
and
That's the point of today's
Afternoon update I reckon
Stock market update. Well, I was read today
I've been striving to outperform the market in my portfolio
But lately I've been struggling with that. I was doing fine for a while
With my goal of outperforming the market
But lately it's kind of gone the other way where the markets kind of starting to catch up to me. I'm still ahead
But the market is certainly catching up
Mostly because a lot of the stocks that I own that have been doing really well are starting to top out
are starting to
correct a little bit
so
And I'm still have a massive cash position
But what's what's really bad is on red days when the market is down and I I still I
Am down more than the market on the red days
I had a day like that today and that that's just really painful and it makes me feel like I'm just failing
At my goal of outperforming the market, but the truth is just that that happens sometimes obviously
You can't always outperform the market every day. It's you have to look at it over a long period of time
So anyway, just a little update on that little goal of mine who knows what's gonna happen there and
That's
the gist baby
I'm gonna get out of here and go into Kohl's and return this Amazon thing
Until next time friends peace out
